Small Great Things

By Jodi Picoult

Jodi Picoult is my all time favorite author!  She can tell a story from every perspective and keep you engaged and wanting more!  I have not read a single book she has written and not loved it!  This one is soon to be a motion picture, so read the book now before the movie comes out!  One of the things I love about Ms. Picoult is that she is not afraid to address serious and timely issues and this one is no exception.  In Small Great Things, she addresses race, privilege, prejudice.  This book is intelligent, smart and intriguing.

My Sister’s Keeper

By Jodi Picoult

This is an oldie, but a goody and one of my favorite books ever.  This book was made into a movie, and you may have seen it, but you need to also read the book.  It’s about a young girl who was conceived with the sole purpose of saving the life of her older sister who had been diagnosed with luekemia.  She tells the story from every perspective, the parents, the ill sister Kate and Anna, the sister who is a medical resource for Kate.  It’s truly  a remarkable and heartbreaking story. If you are anything like me, you won’t be able to put it down.

Look Alive Twenty-Five

By Janet Evanovich

My sister got me hooked on this series of books years ago, and I JUST.CAN’T.STOP.  These books are super easy to read and you can knock one out in an afternoon if you are having one of those days!  They are laugh out loud funny, all about Stephanie Plum, (likely a 9 on the Enneagram), a misguided woman from New Jersey who’s main source of income is from bounty hunting, alongside a fried chicken loving former Trenton prostitute.   Every book finds her in some kind of pickle with with non law-abiding peeps, and one or both of her two love interests play a role in getting her out of her self imposed messes.

I am a huge fan of audible, but for some reason, I love reading these ones myself.  I tried listening to one, and definitely prefer my own internal voices!  You don’t have to start at #1 to dig right in, but if you can, I would.  Your local library probably has the whole series, or they are super inexpensive on Amazon!  Click on the picture to learn more and to order off Amazon. Outlander

by Diana Gabaldon

What suburban housewife’s book list would be complete without the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon.  Another friend turned me on to this series about 15 years ago, and I don’t regret it.  It’s now a STARZ series, and they have done a wonderful job keeping to the story line, but you should still read them!  The books are huge…we’re talking 800-1000 pages, so they can be intimidating…but you can you do it!  You won’t be disappointed!  They are a little bit historical fiction, a little bit science fiction, adventurous, thrilling and a lot of romance (Mark say’s it’s Scottish porn).  Don’t let the Sci-Fi scare you though, it’s just time travel, no weird 5 headed monsters here.
